The first is a novella called The Sunken Mall (set between TLS and THM), the other is a short story thingy set after THM (set during covid lockdown), and which Edwards released as connected mini-fics on his twitter. The author is gay, so this is an own voices series.įor those who read The Last Sun and The Hanged Man, but don't follow the author's twitter, be aware that he has self-published two FREE additional stories for fans. The Sunken Mall is a novella in The Tarot Sequence, a fantasy series by K.D. Their gift plans are shaped by Quinn, the teenager seer, who orchestrates a shopping expedition into the Worcester Galleria, a translocated mall. In an effort to more fully integrate their ward Max into the family, Rune and Brand endeavor to find Equinox gifts for the teenager. But as you go farther into the series, you find major characters who are demisexual, asexual, pansexual, genderfluid, etc. The Sunken Mall takes place after the events of The Last Sun. Most Atlanteans are bi, and as a society group marriage is common. On of the great things about the series is the queer rep. I know nothing about tarot, but find the worldbuilding and characters quite interesting regardless. The MC is Rune (the Sun arcana heir), the setting is New Atlantis, a city on Nantucket that was founded as a refugee colony after old Atlantis was destroyed in the human-Atlantean world war in the 1960s.įor those into tarot, you'll find lots of overt and also more subtle references to the symbolism, as well as character personality traits and actions that fit with both upright cards and 'reversed' cards. The most powerful 'god-like' people in the world are the twenty-two Arcana, whose powers and purviews fit with the tarot archetypes.

So, I have not seen much discussion about KD Edward's Tarot Sequence, so I am rectifying that with a thread.įor those of you haven't read it, it's a queer fantasy/urban fantasy that combines tarot with Atlantis.
