I really loved this book! Lucinda Riley captured my attention from the very beginning of the book with her beautiful writing, and drew me into the world of Maia D’Aplièse, who embarks on a life-changing journey to discover her true heritage and uncover the secrets of the past. “Love knows not distance It hath no continent Its eyes are for the stars”

In the heady, vibrant streets of Montparnasse, she meets ambitious young sculptor Laurent Brouilly, and knows at once that her life will never be the same again. But Izabela longs for adventure, and convinces him to allow her to accompany the family of a renowned architect on a trip to Paris. Each of them is handed a tantalising clue to their true heritage – a clue which takes Maia across the world to a crumbling mansion in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil…Įighty years earlier, in the Belle Époque of Rio, 1927, Izabela Bonifacio’s father has aspiration for his daughter to marry into aristocracy. The Pearl Sister is due for release in November 2017 and I am eagerly anticipated discovering more about this fabulous fictional family.Maia D’Aplièse and her five sisters gather together at their childhood home – a fabulous, secluded castle situated on the shores of Lake Geneva – having been told that their beloved adoptive father, the elusive billionaire they call Pa Salt, has died. There is a depth of emotion in the writing as well and I was brought to tears in some of the passages relating to grief and loss. I for one had trouble putting the books down and was inspired to research deeper into the historical facts alluded to in some of the stories. The writing is very descriptive and one gets a true sense of place, be it the shores of Lake Geneva, the streets of Paris or the favelas of Rio. Three books have been released thus far and each is an engrossing story full of mystery, romance and historical facts.

The girls are fantastically beautiful and multi-talented and all have benefited from a privileged upbringing but the usual sibling rivalries and modern family dynamics are present. Lucinda Riley has given each girl attributes that link to the Greek mythology surrounding the Pleiades.

The 'sisters' are named after the stars of the Pleiades cluster in order of age Maia, Ally (Alcyone), Star (Asterope), Ce-Ce (Celaeno), Tiggy (Taygete) and Electra D'Apliese.
